Three men were wounded and taken into custody by Jordanian security forces on Monday morning following a shootout in the Karak governorate.
The suspects were identified as the individuals who attacked a Greek Orthodox church during a funeral service on Friday in the village of Hammoud. The raid occurred at dawn south of Amman. All three men sustained severe injuries. No officers were hurt in the exchange. The Public Security Directorate confirmed the arrests without naming the suspects.
Interior Minister Mazen Al-Faraya spoke to the state broadcaster Al-Mamlaka to confirm the details of the operation. He stated that security services fulfilled their duties by capturing those responsible for the terrorist act. Al-Faraya noted that the suspects put up fierce resistance before being subdued. He added that the men were identified early in the investigation and that authorities used all available means to apprehend them.
King Abdullah II directed officials to respond with an iron fist against the attackers. The monarch described them as outlaws of Islam and warned against anyone seeking to undermine the unity of the Jordanian people.
The Public Security Directorate said terrorism has no place among them. The agency stated the men met their just fate. Reuters reported that the directorate did not point to any possible links to Islamist militant groups. No armed organization has publicly claimed responsibility for the Friday attack.
